OVERVIEW
Imagine stepping into the vibrant chaos of Hanoi’s streets, where life hums at every corner, and capturing it through your lens with guidance from someone who has lived and breathed Vietnam for over two decades. Join me, Justin Mott, for an intimate, premium workshop designed for those who crave more than just a photography tour. With over 100 assignments for The New York Times under my belt, my experience in this region is unparalleled. This is not a cookie-cutter trip; it’s a hands-on, immersive journey crafted for photographers of all levels, from beginners to seasoned pros.
Our adventure begins in Hanoi, the bustling heart of Vietnam, where we’ll delve into street photography and portraiture. Then, we’ll ascend to the awe-inspiring mountains of Sapa, where rare access to local communities will allow you to capture the soul of this region through storytelling. By the end of this journey, you won’t just be taking photos—you’ll be crafting stories. And because food is a story of its own, my Hanoi-born wife will introduce you to the exquisite cuisines of northern Vietnam, ensuring your experience is as rich and flavorful as the country itself.
LODGING
You’ll start at the luxurious Apricot Hotel, a boutique gem overlooking the iconic Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi. From there, we’ll retreat to the breathtaking Topas EcoLodge, a National Geographic-recognized haven perched high in the mountains of Hoang Lien National Park in Sapa. It’s more than just a place to rest; it’s an experience that complements the stories you’ll capture during the day.
FOOD
The entire culinary experience has been thoughtfully curated by Justin’s wife, Quynh Anh—known affectionately as Q. A Hanoi native, Q has handpicked her favorite authentic dining spots to give you a true taste of northern Vietnam.
